This roundup is verified. The carousel was posted at 9:28 pm IST on 19 October 2026. The package was checked at 7:54 pm IST. Seven stories follow, each from the caption, the source list and that item's desk brief. The cover is an NP graphic.
Asian Para Games, day one
India won 11 medals on day one in Aichi-Nagoya: four gold, five silver and two bronze. India is fourth on the medal table, behind China and Japan. The caption names the golds as Mona Agarwal, Nishad Kumar, Rinku, and Soumya with guide Bharath Kumar.
Rinku won the men's javelin F46 with 65.11 metres, a season best, not a record. Ajeet Singh's silver was 65.02 metres. The desk brief puts Rinku nine centimetres ahead. Soumya won the women's 1500m T12/T13 in a personal best of 5:12.39, with Radha Venkatesh second. Sheetal Devi scored 704 out of 720 in compound qualification and equalled the world record. That round was qualification only. She has no medal yet.

The MEA and the OIC meeting in Baghdad
On 19 October the Ministry of External Affairs rejected references to India at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's Council of Foreign Ministers, which met in Baghdad on 17 and 18 October. In the desk brief's account of the statement, the ministry called the references "malicious, biased, and false", said they were "orchestrated by Pakistan", and said the OIC has "no locus standi" on matters internal to India. It said Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, rejected "insinuations related to Islamophobia", and urged OIC members to reform the body.
The reports read here did not carry the resolutions' own wording, so this section stays with what the MEA rejected. The Hindu and The Times of India report the statement. The slide is a file photograph of South Block, Ginevrajocosa88 / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0, not the Baghdad meeting.
The senior men's selection committee
The BCCI has named Pragyan Ojha chairman of the senior men's selection committee, replacing Ajit Agarkar. India Today and Moneycontrol reported that on Monday as a completed naming. Telegraph India's earlier copy said he was set to become chairman. Ojha, who played 24 Tests, had been interim chairman since Agarkar left. Ramesh Powar joins as the West Zone selector. The desk brief, citing NDTV, names the other members as Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra and RP Singh. The slide is a 2013 file photograph, Wikimedia Commons, CC0.
Merger papers in Meghalaya
Paul Lyngdoh and Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, two UDP MLAs, submitted a letter of merger with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma's National People's Party to Speaker Thomas Sangma on Monday, Meghalaya Monitor reported. The merger is not approved. The Speaker said he would seek a legal opinion and confirm the intent of a third UDP MLA, Nujorki Sungoh, who was absent for medical reasons.
PTI, via ThePrint, and India Today NE described remaining UDP MLAs as set to join, in lines that speak of three. The Monitor's account is two sets of papers submitted, with the third's consent still pending. The desk brief says approval would take the NPP from 33 to 36 seats and leave the UDP with Metbah Lyngdoh. That count is what approval would mean. It is not an approval. Marco Rubio in Samarkand
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday in Samarkand that Washington is "very close" to a trade deal with India, and that this was among the things considered in national-security waivers. The desk brief places the remarks at Registan Square and links them to President Trump's waiver of Russia-energy sanctions under the Graham Act. Rubio cited high global fuel prices and said "geography is real" for some countries. The caption records tariffs of up to 100 percent as deferred, not cancelled. The deal is not signed. He meets External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Mumbai on Tuesday. That is not described as a signing. The brief notes that India has not commented. Donald Tusk's visit
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will visit India from 21 to 23 October at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation, The Times of India and IANS reported. Talks with Modi are in New Delhi on 22 October, then Bengaluru for IT and space-sector meetings. IANS, which the brief marks as the source beyond the dates, adds Poland's finance minister and a business delegation, and business forums in New Delhi on 22 October and in Bengaluru on 23 October. The Polish Investment and Trade Agency lists an economic mission to India. No agreement is predicted. Orangutan Rocky
Rocky, a young male Sumatran orangutan, reached Medan on 19 October. He was found in a cage in a Thane flat in November 2024 and treated at Vantara's Greens Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Jamnagar until declared fit to travel. The Indian Express and The Hindu report the repatriation. He arrived at Kualanamu Airport. The desk brief says Indian and Indonesian authorities and CITES officials coordinated. Next is quarantine and rehabilitation. He has not been released. The slide is representational, Borja Fierro / Wikimedia Commons, CC BY 4.0, not Rocky.
