This note is NP NOW. The stamp is verified, the toll is still developing, and the cause is not confirmed. It was posted at 9:46 am IST on 18 October 2026. A 9:50 am caption was edited at 11:30 am with an 11:20 am block. That block is the latest toll and the relief.

A paddy truck broke police barricades near the temple and came down a slope. The caption says Sheetla Mata. Hindustan Times and an India Today video say Shitala Mata. It was about 1:30 am on Sunday 18 October, about 20 km from Gwalior, the distance in News18 Hindi. India Today names the steep Chhinor road, restricted for the Navratri crowd on Saptami. The truck hit devotees and stalls, then the temple gate and the outer wall. Hindustan Times, updated at 7:20 am, says the truck stopped at a barricade and lost control on the slope.

The toll rose, so each figure keeps its clock. The 9:00 am check records an earlier Collector figure of 11 and an SSP figure of 12. Hindustan Times at 7:20 am reported 12 dead and 29 injured. By the 9:00 am check the official toll was at least 13. The Collector, on India Today video at 7:30 am, said "around thirteen people have passed away." The SP told PTI, in The New Indian Express, that 13 were killed. Dr Sudhir Saxena, the JAH superintendent, told ETV Bharat at 8:30 am that 13 deaths were confirmed. The Times of India at 7:49 am, India Today at 7:54 am and The Week at 8:15 am said the same. The Week adds that authorities confirmed one more death after the SSP spoke of 12. The 9:50 am caption still said at least 13. It said Navbharat Times and Amar Ujala were reporting 14. As of 11:20 am, officials put the toll at at least 14. Some outlets, citing officials, say 15. That 15 is their report, not the figure this note adopts.

SSP Dharmveer Singh, the spelling in The Times of India, The Week, NDTV and India Today, said about 39 people went to hospital, 5 or 6 critical, with 2 personnel on duty hurt. Hindustan Times and The New Indian Express spell him Dharamveer or Dharamvir Yadav. News18 Hindi uses Dharmveer Singh Yadav. PTI said nearly 40 injured. The Collector's video said about 30 injured and 2 home guards. Dr Saxena said 7 were critical. The Times of India says 2 police were injured. The Collector is not named, because the outlets do not agree on the surname.

No cause is officially confirmed. In the India Today video the Collector said the circumstances were not clear, and the video's account is that the truck had been parked behind the barriers and then started rolling. Hindustan Times reports that the SP said a preliminary probe suggests mechanical failure. That is a suggestion in one report, not a finding. The Collector said the probe will ask how the truck passed a stopper and a checkpoint. A probe has been ordered, an RTO team is inspecting the truck, and India Today says CT scans and X-rays were under way. The 11:20 update says the probe continues.

The 9:00 am check had not confirmed ex-gratia for this crash. Hindustan Times, citing the Collector, said the injured were being treated with Red Cross funds. The caption's 11:20 am update then lists two separate sets of aid. From the PMNRF: Rs 2 lakh for each person who died, and Rs 50,000 for each person injured. From Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav: Rs 4 lakh for each person who died, Rs 2 lakh for those seriously injured, Rs 50,000 for the other injured, and free treatment.

The caption's advice, to use marked routes and to listen to police and volunteers, is the post's, not an order. The poster is the NP slide. Its photograph is a representational file image of Gwalior Fort and the city, 26 August 2007, by Krystyna Grabelus Shaikh, Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0. It is not this temple and not this crash, and it shows no crowd and no victims. The other slides are NP graphics. The post offers condolences.
